Your life with loved ones could see some changes in the course of the year. For some, it will simply be an 'up and down' year. Ride out the bumps and find a new approach to old problems. With the state of Venus and Mars in your solar chart for 2003, action on the domestic front could be intense. There may be changes around the family home. For some there may be a new home. For others there will be exits and entrances from the family home, some taking place unexpectedly or with astonishing speed. As Mars in Scorpio forms a square with giant Jupiter in your sign as the New Year begins, there could be conflict in the home for some, especially where matters of religious or political belief are involved. If this occurs, negotiate, don't bluster! For the lions with family, don't try to rule your pride with a rod of iron. If you can't cut your offspring a little slack, you may find yourselves at loggerheads. Use insight to see what is going on underneath the surface before you start laying down the law. Some lions may be drawn to skills and practitioners of an esoteric nature while others may need the services of healers or even learn the healing arts themselves. This is a year in which the call to new practices or methods will be simple and clear. If you need to exercise, do so. If you need to change your diet or use remedies, do so. If you need to learn new methods or techniques, do so. Mercury Retrograde  Mercury moves into retrograde (reverse) motion three times a year for about three weeks each time. This phase heralds a time of confusion and misunderstandings that can affect arrangements, travel, transport, appliances, machinery and communications. The breakdowns that occur are a function of neglect, inattention, simple misunderstandings or component failure. They will often bring to the fore the very contingency we should have planned for and didn't. When the retrograde phase occurs, watch out for such possibilities as well as putting off major decision-making or the signing of crucial documents and agreements. We tend to miss things while Mercury is in reverse motion and then have to come back and do them again. A process of review in the retrograde phase can efficiently show where problems might lie and help us with damage control or the mending of things. Double check arrangements at these times! What you think you've said and what others have understood will often prove to be two different things. Mercury's first retrograde phase begins on January 2nd in the sign of Capricorn and your solar sixth house of work and health. Be careful with regard to work-related accidents and minor health problems. You may need to look at communications with co-workers and there could be trouble with office equipment or machinery at work. Your daily routines may be interrupted or simply not go as planned. Take practical steps to solve any problems. Don't just let things slide. This reverse motion cycle finishes on January 23rd. The messenger begins his second retrograde phase in the sign of Taurus and your solar tenth house on April 26th. There could be communication difficulties related to working or professional matters. There might be upsets or reversals in your dealings with those in authority or in situations where you have to take authority. You will need to review such matters and some of you may even be reviewing your professional direction. Don't make decisions too early. Clashes over values or money might be at the heart of any problem, no matter how things seem. Be reasonable and pragmatic. This period finishes on May 20th. The third retrograde phase for the messenger takes place in the sign of Virgo and your solar second house of personal finances. This occurs from August 27th until September 29th. Once again, daily routines may be interrupted or changed unexpectedly. Minor disruptions could occur. Health matters need to be under examination as you may be a little under par. Your New Moon comes on July 29th with a whiff of opposition from mystic Neptune. Don't misread the signs and don't be influenced by excessive hopefulness or romanticism. Things may not be as they seem. A domestic issue or an emotional matter may have a new light cast on it or something from this sector of your life may come to a head. There could be a break or a separation with regard to home or loved ones. This may come as a consequence of intense feeling or powerful external circumstances. There may be little you can do except let things run their course. Try to see to the heart of what's going on. May 31st brings a Solar Eclipse in Gemini and your solar eleventh house of friends, hopes and wishes. This could signal the end of the road with a dream you have been pursuing. You may need a change of direction. New information may influence your decisions. There could be an end of a cycle with a friendship or association. You may be going down different roads or a clash of ideas may bring a parting of the ways. There may be some loss of connection with an unusual woman who has been part of your life. On June 3rd, sober Saturn, the measurer of effort, moves into the sign of Cancer and your solar twelfth house. He will journey here for two years. There may be some element of necessary withdrawal with regard to the pattern of your life over this time. You will need a deal of inner consideration and may even be more reserved than usual. Some of you may spend time reviewing past efforts or have to deal with matters that arise from past events.
