MARS RETROGRADE: Children of the Pisces Revolution by Richard Giles
Mars, the ancient god of war, is at his closest point to the earth in recorded human history. During 2003, both Mars and Uranus have entered Pisces, the final zodiac sign. Mars stays there 6 months, much longer than its average stay and Uranus, being a slow mover, will stay until 2008. The strong Piscean emphasis this year will produce a crop of children with very potent futures. Richard Giles, astrologer and feng shui consultant, expands his recent discussion of the current Mars/Uranus situation, in the light of the generation that will be born under this conjunction.
In a recent article on this site (A Close Call from Planet Mars) I wrote about the August to October period as Mars comes close to the Earth, closer than it's been for thousands of years, as it turns retrograde (backwards motion through the zodiac). In this article I'll speculate about the children being born today who'll have Mars and Uranus retrograde in Pisces as the two visually circumambulate each other in the heavens. Children born late 2003 are going to be very strong examples of the erratic and sometimes revolutionary power that can be granted to a generational group to change things in society. In many places the children of the last 15 - 20 years are now referred to as the 'Indigo Children' (see the books The Indigo Children, Carroll & Tober and Emissary of Love, James Twyman for more on this topic).
Looking at two aspects to the hot and dynamic duo, there is a period where they retrograde together and a second one when they move forward. I say "hot" because both of them have a reputation for action. Mars is the planet of war, courage, fight, anger and leadership. Uranus is the planet of sudden change, unexpected action, electricity, eccentricity, breakdowns and the power of new technologies and computers. Mars/Uranus types are going to combine brilliance, energy, drive, vision and unpredictability together.
Many Uranians carry an electrical energy that makes them excitable and exciting plus with Mars they have an excess of physical and sexual tension that can be very upsetting to them and their families, so it needs channelling.
Examples of people with the Mars/Uranus conjunction helps put a picture to this combination. Look at Anita Bryant, Angela Davis, Martina Hingis, Robin Williams, Steve Martin, Johnny Depp, John Wayne, Boy George, Jim Morrison, Jesse Ventura, L.Ron Hubbard and Sri Aurobindo. Some like Anita Bryant gave up her singing career to promote gay rights. Angela Davis was an academic turned black rights activist. John Wayne was most certainly a Mars man with a difference. Robin Williams is a manic humorist. Steve Martin also has that zany comic timing and strange funny film plots. Johnny Depp had his film career launched with that strange movie Edward Scissorhands which brought the Mars scissors together with Uranian weirdness. Boy George and Jim Morrison both displayed their sexuality in dramatic and public ways. Jesse Ventura is a professional wrestler turned politician. L. Ron Hubbard launched a whole philosophy of assessment through personal development that is still controversial. Sri Aurobindo created a new spiritual movement that affected a generation all the way up to the UN.
Kindergartens of 2008
Let's move forward to the kindergartens of 2008, as the first crop of 2003 babies start hitting the walls, literally. If we think that we've had trouble with hyperactive children now, then those coming to a nursery near you in 5 years will have twice the 'hyper' of those born before them. Mars/Uranus has a sexual and action tension that makes them difficult children. They'll find it hard to conform to the rules, take interest in mundane subjects and perform according to teachers and parent's' models of behaviour. They may be accident-prone and may do things with computers and technology that will leave all of us behind. They'll often have a feisty defiance and one-pointed commitment to beliefs or goals. They'll have their own views and undauntedly flaunt them to the world. You'll be drawn to them and love them, or you'll just be unable to stand them.
To get the full effect of this conjunction both planets have to be placed prominently on the major angles - ascendant, descendent, midheaven or I.C., or connect strongly with the Sun or Moon, otherwise the combination may just sit in the background.
Mars moved into Pisces on the 17th June 2003 and remains there until 16th December. It was conjunct Uranus immediately and remained within 6 degrees (a good conjunction) of Uranus to July 17th then back again on 21st August till 26th October within 6 degrees. They conjuncted exactly on 24th June being within one degree for a week and around September 27th they're together for over 3 weeks. And Jupiter moves into Virgo (from 28th August) and sits opposite the pair through September - an additional expansive accompaniment.
Those already born from 17th June will have Mars energy direct until 29th July then both Mars and Uranus are retrograde until 27th September. Children with the birth dates from 29/7 to 27/9 will have much trouble handling their masculine side and face big issues about losing personal freedom. Watch their rebellious attitudes over discipline and authority. Those born over the August 28th New Moon will have an extra line-up of 5 planets in Virgo opposing two in Pisces (the opposition lasts almost 5 days with Sun, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter). They'll be outspoken, overactive and erratic people prone to exaggerated action (depending on their birth times). They'll have a special attitude to the world which is likely to be utterly different from everyone else's.
The Zodiac Timing
The zodiac timing of these children will have the first of them born with a Gemini Sun until 22nd June, those with a Cancer Sun until 23rd July, those with Virgo Sun until 23rd August, those with Libran Sun until 23rd September and finally the Scorpios until 23rd November. The number of Gemini Mars/Uranus children will be small, but as we move to the sensitive and emotionally charged Cancers then we have a whole month of them as Mars moves forward to its stationary point in July.
Cancer Suns - they'll be Moon ruled intuitives with a good creative trine to the Mars combination early in the sign (from 22nd June until 10th July). This will help the early ones deal with their martian energies. Quite a few will have their Cancer Sun conjunct Saturn (22nd June - 5th July) which made its move into Cancer in early June. Some of these could be a very quiet or suppressed lot, but at the same time very inventive.
Leo Suns - from 23rd July until 4th August they'll have their Sun in a strong inconjunct (a 150 degree unsettling aspect) to the Mars or Uranus and this is likely to make them very easily irritated or angry and have very strong will power - those happy, generous but often self-centred Leos.
Virgo Suns - from 23rd August until 3rd September they'll have the Pisces line-up opposite up to five planets in Virgo. The New Moon of 28th August will give Sun/Moon/Mercury/Venus/ Jupiter opposite Mars and Uranus. And to add to the dilemma, they'll have Mercury turn retrograde on the 28th and an exact Jupiter opposite Uranus on 30th August. These children will be easily angered, tactless, brusque and off-putting. They are guaranteed to be totally independent thinkers and speakers. Listen to them shriek in the nurseries of the world as they demand to get things the way they want and won't mince words to get it. Later in life they may be very independent researchers into health, medicine, food and all types of new inventions.
Libra Suns - from 23rd September until 3rd October all of them will have the Sun in easy creative trine aspect to Mars at zero Pisces and Uranus just inside Aquarius. These children will be very powerful little persuaders and action practitioners without all the noise or anger of the earlier Sun sign groups. Mars is not longer retrograde having turned direct on 27th September so they have resolved some of the issues of the children of previous months.
Scorpio Suns - those born for the first 17 days of Scorpio will have Sun and Mars in a strong watery trine making them very powerful people using the positive side of that martian energy. They may be good athletes, leaders, courageous warriors for the good and honest police, military or firemen (that will be a good change).
One factor quite important to cover which adds to positive behavioural outcomes for many of these children is Saturn moving into Cancer early June - many will have Saturn trining the Pisces planets helping them find creative solutions to personal dilemmas, though it may only come through as they get older and develop in their maturity cycle.
In summary, couples having children born during the 5 month period, late June until October, face challenging children. Be patient with them, allow them lots of freedom, watch them for dangerous activities leading to accidents and don't feed them calming drugs such as Ritalin or you'll loose their spontaneity. These will be the Challenge Mini-generation ready to unsettle teachers through the school system for years to come.
